not since Young have San Francisco had anything close to Pro Bowler material, Smith isn't worth it, Carr is decent enough but his consistency is devastatingly awful, so we need THE QB of the future.
The Rams won't give up Sam Bradford, Clausen falling down to pick 13 would be the biggest surprise since the Texans passing up Vince Young AND Reggie Bush, and as such we are left with little alternative.
One could argue Tebow is overrated and drafting him would be as big a mistake as Smith as number one, but we can risk it, we got two first rounds picks this year. Joe Haden will almost certainly be our pick 13, rightfully so, however pick 17 is slated to be RB C.J. Spiller.
This is a mistake.
Gore is a Pro Bowler and going nowhere, Coffee is a decent enough backup, although his average of 2.7 yards a carry isn't enough should Gore be injured, his reception skills are nonetheless impressive enough for the easier games vs. the likes of the Rams and Lions.
Tebow is slated to go to Jacksonville, possibly at pick 10, if he goes then the Niners should draft Spiller, his biggest asset is his return game, which the Niners are sorely lacking in.
But this pales in contrast to Tebow, who may be the best QB ever to grace the NCAA scene, while this doesn't mean he's a shoe in for the best NFL-ready QB, it means he has something to give.
San Francisco should definitely look into Spiller, but if I was the Niners GM and had a choice, I would go for Tebow 99 times out of a hundred.
You might say "We have Carr" and while I agree he's impressive enough, as slated above, he's no favourite with the consistency gods. Tebow so far has been, and being overlooked will only spur his passion and desire to impress.
But why Tebow? and not another mid-late QB prospect? Because he just is the real deal in my opinion, decent running game, passing is superb, the only flaw is the 49ers offensive line isn't strong and isn't dominant like Floridas.
Of course this will only happen if Jacksonville overlook him, otherwise Carr and Smith will work the pocket, Gore will mentor Spiller and we at least get a ground return game.
Best ever college QB or Return Specialist, either gives us Niner fans a reason for hero worship.
Of course either way we can't count on either being available, we must consider other hopes, personally, if neither Tebow or Spiller are avaliable, we must draft an offensive lineman, hands down.
And so we cast our attention t oApril 20-22th, and pray.
